Swindon Town Football Club, known as the Robins, are a professional club based in Swindon, Wiltshire. Founded in 1879, they have spent recent seasons competing in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of English football. The club play their home matches at the County Ground, currently named the Nigel Eady County Ground, which holds just over 15,500 supporters and has been their home since 1896.
Swindon are managed by Ian Holloway, the experienced former Premier League boss who took charge in October 2024 and signed a long-term contract the following spring. He steered the side away from danger before mounting a promotion push that fell just short, with the Robins missing out on the play-offs on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign. The club remains under the ownership of Australian businessman Clem Morfuni, whose Axis group takeover in 2021 ended a turbulent period of financial and boardroom uncertainty.
Match days at the County Ground reflect a fanbase known for loyalty through repeated promotions and relegations between the third and fourth tiers. Swindon's fiercest rivalry is with Oxford United, with the two clubs contesting the keenly fought A420 derby. The wider club also includes Swindon Town Women, who compete in the regional tiers of the women's pyramid and play home fixtures at Foundation Park and the County Ground.
Swindon enjoyed the defining moment of their history in 1969, lifting the League Cup after a 3-1 win over Arsenal at Wembley, inspired by talismanic winger Don Rogers. Under Glenn Hoddle, they reached the top flight for the first time by winning the 1993 play-off final, though relegation followed a single season later. The club's past also carries controversy, most notably the 1990 play-off success under Osvaldo Ardiles that was overturned after financial breaches. Figures such as Lou Macari and record appearance holder John Trollope remain woven into the club's identity.
